Works of Art by North Hampton Artist Donna Pierce-Clark
Donna Pierce-Clark paints primarily in water-media (watercolor, acrylic
and watermiscible oils). Her paintings begin with the freedom of splashes
and puddles of many bright colors, applied wet into wet, and end as a mix of
realism and fantasy. Her landscapes reveal her interpretation of the
reality of any given scene.
As a child, her father, a former U.S. Coastguardsman, instilled within her a love of the sea. Her childhood in the rolling hills of southern Ohio as well as visits to the diverse Atlantic seacoast created a deep appreciation for the landscape as well as inspiration for her current work. Lighthouses fascinate Ms. Pierce-Clark, as do turbulent waters, calm blue seas, large rock formations and sea gulls. She loves including children in her landscapes as well as painting them through commissioned portrait work.
While Ms. Pierce-Clark's watercolors - utilizing Yupo paper - express fluid, loose brushwork, her work in oil exhibits a more controlled look.
Ms Pierce-Clark is a retired art and special education teacher; is an active member of the Western Ohio Watercolor Society in Springfield, Ohio and in 2005 won Best of Show at that society's Winter Competition.
