Sculpture and Other Art Forms of Artist Glenn "Little Owl" Miller

   Glenn Little Owl Miller, born in the Adirondack mountains near the Akwesasne and St. Regis Mohawk Reservations, grew up learning the traditional skill from various Native American elders.  Glenn Little Owl Miller works in a variety of art forms and mediums including stone, metal and wood sculpture, basketry, regalia, painting, silversmithing and jewelry.  He is a member of the Indian Arts and Crafts Association (IACA).  He has received numerous awards for his work.  His exhibitions included two sculptures - "Hashishki-Kya" (Earth Mother) and "Makwa Hochapiki" (Bear Medicine) - on display at the 2005 Art in the Garden, Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Gardens event, April  thru June, 2005.

   Eastern U.S., Native American symbolism and spirituality is included in all Glenn's art.  The following images depict the many facets of Glenn's interest and his ways of presenting native culture and history.  Some of the items are available for purchase and others have already been sold... these images are a sampling of his work and his capabilities.  Glenn is available for interior and exterior art projects, large or small.

"Makwa Hochapiki" (Bear Medicine)

The sculpture consists of eight bears, two each representing the white, red, yellow and black races. The bands connecting the bears, the hand prints on the poles and the central bear spirit represent unity.

This piece was disassembled after the exhibition in the Cincinnati Zoo.  The prototype bear shown below is the bear from which all the others were cast.
